Anticipating Delays: Baby on the Way!

Praised be Jesus Christ!

Despite the craziness inundating our world right now, He is still finding ways to shower His blessings. Here at Benedict’s Beads, we are celebrating having completed our first large order of 50 rosaries for a parish celebrating their 150th anniversary. We are also excited for the steady stream of orders we have been receiving, getting to make and send beautiful rosaries all around the world. But most excitedly we are anticipating the birth of our first child near the end of October!

Each day is bringing us closer and closer to meeting our little one for the first time! This also means that our days have been filling up more and more with baby preparations and plans for how to manage the changes that will come when our little blessing arrives. We want to assure you that operations will continue at Benedict’s Beads, but we are anticipating increased delays as we approach the birth.

So far we are catching back up with our orders and repairs and we are often spending our nights after work completing orders. We are trying, as much as possible to stay up with our workload as we have our best year since starting this business in 2010.

All orders will still be processed on a first-come first-serve basis, and opting for a rush order will move your order up in the queue. Our 4-6 week (or shorter for rush orders) processing timeline is temporary suspended, but we will continue to strive to fulfill orders within this timeframe for as long as we are able. If you are wanting a rosary by a certain date and are concerned about it arriving on time, please contact us at rosarymaker@benedictsbeads.com – we will do what we can to accommodates your needs as best we can. We especially encourage those who are considering ordering for Christmas to place their orders as soon as they can to give us plenty of time to get those rosaries or chaplets to you in time for gift giving.

We thank you for your patience and prayers during this time as we transition in to becoming new parents and apologize for any inconveniences these delays might cause. Thank you for supporting Benedict’s Beads!

In Christ through Mary,

Brad & Ciera Geist

Pandemic Precautions

To our customers,

We would like all of you to know that due to the pandemic and local restrictions which are ever changing, we have decided to limit the number of our visits to the post office to once a week, typically on Saturday. We are committed to getting your orders to you on time and are working to keep up with the very large number of orders that have come in so far since the pandemic began. So far, we are up to date.

We would like to let our repair customers know that we are trying hard to find replacement parts for their rosaries from the large collection of donations that we have received. Some rosaries are more unique and it has been difficult to find matching beads with bead stores and suppliers being limited in their hours or in some places closed for quite some time. We ask for patience as we keep working on finding the best parts for your rosaries.

If you have any questions about your orders, please email rosarymaker@benedictsbeads.com. We thank you for your patience in this difficult time and look forward to continuing to serve your rosary needs.

In Christ through Mary,

Brad and Ciera Geist

Benedict’s Beads

Thank you!

Ciera (the new co-owner of Benedict’s Beads) and I would like to take the to thank you for your patience during our transition time as we prepared for our wedding, got married, went on honeymoon, and dealt with the aftermath as we both got settled in to our new home.  We are happy to say that we are now fully operational for at least a few weeks now and plugging along nicely.  We could not be more grateful for your patience during this time and we look forward to serving your rosary needs in the future.

Brad and Ciera Geist

A New Change of Address

As mentioned in our previous blog post, Ciera and I are getting ready to get married and with that comes a new address where we will begin our married life and, consequently, where we will be moving the business.  The new address is

Benedict’s Beads
C/O Brad Geist
8650 NE Sam Ray Road
Kansas City, MO 64156

If you have sent us a package to our old address in the last few days, please do not panic!  We still have a month of rent left with that house and will be checking the mail every week or two.  We are also having our mail forwarded as well.  But please send any new packages with your rosary repairs, ladderizations, or donations to the address above.  Thank you!

In Christ through Mary,

Meet our Newest Rosary Maker- Ciera!

IMG_0250I mentioned a couple of months ago that I was about to hire a new employee- a first in the history of Benedict’s Beads. Meet Ciera, from Philothea Surrendered.  Ciera is a senior at Benedictine College and a close friend of mine.  I have long been impressed with her rosary work and, as I continued to expand the business after leaving the monastery, decided to take her on as an employee.  We decided to ask Ciera some questions so that you can get to know her better.

Why do you like making rosaries?

I love working with my hands on various crafts, and, of these, beading is my longest-lasting serious hobby (having started when I was in the 5th grade). The reason I like making rosaries in particular is that it allows me to incorporate my faith – particularly my love for the Blessed Mother – into my work, allowing it to glorify God in a beautiful way, as well to help others to draw closer to Christ through their use of my rosaries.

What was the first rosary you’ve ever made?

18788109_1208499225927590_600477478_nThe first rosary that I made was made of blue-green and yellow glass beads strung and knotted onto a brown leather cord (which, after having gone through the laundry a couple times, was quickly replaced with wire). That was back when I was in junior high school! The next time that I would make a beaded rosary would not be until I encountered Benedict’s Beads during my freshman year of college. Now it seems like I always have an excuse to make a new rosary – I just can’t seem to stop!

What’s your favorite rosary to have made so far?

18816926_1208499222594257_835073107_nMy favorite rosary that I have “made” up to this point is actually one that I hadn’t designed myself, but one that I had repaired, as the situation was such a personal one. Long story short, I had forgotten my First Communion rosary in the pocket of my school uniform, it went through the wash, and the Hail Mary beads were completely stripped of their pearlescent paint. After many months of debate with myself, I made up my mind to replace the damaged beads, and was pleasantly surprised by the results. The rosary that had meant so much to me and that I thought was past the point of use looked better than ever before!

What excites you about working for Benedict’s Beads?

The fact that I get to make beautiful rosaries for people on a daily basis is probably one of the most exciting aspects of being a part of Benedict’s Beads. Ever since I learned about this company, I wanted to, in some way, be involved. At the time, Benedict’s Beads was restricted to monks-only, which makes me all the more grateful now that I do have the ability to be a part of its ministry.

Why is the rosary important to you?

Aside from being my favorite devotion, the rosary – to me – is a profound way for me to grow in my relationship with Momma Mary and her Son. It’s repetition of prayers has a soothing effect when I have the need to unwind, and at times it can become very intimate, as there is no bottom to the depths of the mysteries that are meditated on. The rosary also has a unique way of unifying those who pray it together – some of my deepest friendships have been formed around praying the rosary together on an at least weekly basis. And then there’s just the fact that holding the beads during prayer is something quite comforting – almost like one is holding on to Momma Mary’s hand while talking to her about your life.

1529780_631504293627089_327629707784584927_oHow would you describe your relationship with the Blessed Virgin?

My relationship with Momma Mary easily be described as that between a mother and daughter, especially in light of making my Total Consecration three years ago. She has very much been a mother to me in my spiritual life, guiding and supporting me when I need her, rejoicing with me in the good times, and – of course – being extremely patient with me in my stubborn moments! She has shown me that I can trust her with a childlike trust in everything that arises on my journey toward her Son.

Do you have any good rosary stories?

I do have one story that comes to mind, but is probably more ironic than anything else! It is also my first full memory in relation to my Catholic faith. I was probably five at the time – give or take a year – and I think I had just got a new rosary bracelet and a picture book on how to pray the rosary from our local Catholic store. I wanted to use my new items, so I asked my mom to teach me how to pray the rosary. We sat down on our living room rug and she began to walk me through praying with the book. Well, as you can imagine, the repetition soon became boring for my little five-year-old mind, and when my mom read yet again “Pray 10 Hail Mary’s,” I let out (jokingly) an exasperated sigh “Again?” I thought I was being funny, but my mom was not amused. If only we both knew just how significant the rosary would become later in my life! Now I can only thank both my biological and my spiritual moms for their patience with their little girl as she slowly grew in maturity of faith!

We welcome Ciera to Benedict’s Beads!

5 New Things at Benedict’s Beads

1. We’re now an LLC!

IMG_0062

At the end of January, I registered Benedict’s Beads as an official Single-member Limited Liability Company, giving Benedict’s Beads the ability to have its own bank accounts and hire employees.  I am very excited for the direction that this business is headed.  I didn’t think when I started this business 6 years ago that I would ever reach this step.  It’s a very exciting but busy time for Benedict’s Beads!

2.  We’ve revamped the Rosary Studio

With a new business came the need for a better and more spacious work space.  So after a couple of trips to Ikea, I was able to get most of the furniture needed.  Tables, cabinets, and other storage helps to ensure that Benedict’s Beads is able to run quickly and efficiently.

3.  We’re adding to our Etsy Store

Up until a few weeks ago, our Etsy store was not worth looking at, but I’ve now added a large number of new listings and will continue to add more as time goes on.  If you enjoy shopping on Etsy, you will find most of our pre-designed rosaries and chaplets, as well as ready to order rosaries there.  We’ve also added the storefront to our Facebook page.  You can see our etsy store by clicking here.

4. We’ve added new forms to the website

We’ve now updated our ordering forms for Ladderizations and Tenner Rosaries so that you can now order these directly without having to contact us.  We will continue to add new ordering forms for the rest of the rosaries and chaplets in the coming month.

5.  We’re about to hire a new employee!

With the increase in business and marketing (not to mention the large influx of rosary repair requests and orders), we are going to be hiring a new employee.  We will be introducing her at a later time.  Check back in the next couple of weeks for news!
